January '98 News
January 30, 1998
The latest news is that Artificial Joy Club will be heading
to Europe in early March to support the worldwide release
of Melt. Sick and Beautiful
has already started to get some heavy airplay in France and
Greece. The band also did a new photo shoot earlier this week
for Europe, hopefully we'll get some of the new pics up for
you when we get them.
Skywriting is set to be released to alternative
radio as the next single in the U.S. and Canada, the band
won't be doing a video for it right away because of the European
tour.

We're going through a brutal freezing rain and snow storm
right now, it's been going on for the last five days. The
storm is affecting a large part of eastern Canada and the
U.S. Most people have been staying home and they have declared
most areas a "state of emergency" for the next little while,
until it lets up a bit. And a lot of people don't have power
and probably won't for the next few days or even weeks they
were saying on the news.
Everything is covered by about an inch of ice and trees
are falling everywhere on to power lines, houses and cars.
It finally seems to be letting up now. Andrew's power was
out for about the last 35 hours.

Matt Levine and Alternative
Rock World's GERBIL MUSICMAG #12 (The Year-End
Spectacular) had Sick & Beautiful in
the #80 spot on his Top 50's Top 200 Tracks of 1997
and melt was #28 on his Picks
on the Best of 1997.
In other end-of-the-year stuff the Consumable
Year End Issue (Top 5 Lists) editor Bob Gajarsky had melt
at #4;
Artificial Joy Club, Melt
(Interscope).
"Sick and Beautiful" was the warped single, but lead singer
Sal hits all the right chords on tracks like "Skywriting"
while the line between pop and alterna-rock is blurred even
further.

We just put up a page for the CD single of Sick
& Beautiful because people have been writing
asking where they can get it. You can use the CD Now link
at the bottom of that page to get it on-line.
We also put up some photos from the show
in Ottawa at Barrymore's on the photos page earlier
this week.
